Abstract

This is lecture 11 in the series "Introduction to the Mathematics of Climate" offered at the University of Minnesota in 2014 with the support of MCRN and The Institute for Mathematics and its Applications.

This lecture scrutinizes some spurious and some good science in the film "The Day After Tomorrow."  It describes some concepts the film got right, such as Heinrich and Dansgaard-Oeschger events and the Younger Dryas. It illustrates using data from Chau & Tung (Science, 2014) that the current heat imbalance is going towards warming the deep ocean.
