  1. Deriving the SWM Lecture 1: Conservation of Potential Vorticity

    04 May 2016 | | Contributor(s):: Christopher KRT Jones

    This lecture develops the conservation equation for potential vorticity in the shallow water model.

  2. Deriving the SWM Lecture 2: Stream Functions for Velocity Fields

    04 May 2016 | | Contributor(s):: Christopher KRT Jones

    This lecture develops the formulation of the stream function for the velocity field of the shallow water equation.  his is the second in a series of short lectures on deriving the shallow water model, given by Chris Jones in 2013.

  3. Deriving the SWM Lecture 3: Barotropic Vorticity Equations

    04 May 2016 | | Contributor(s):: Christopher KRT Jones

    This lecture develops the barotropic vorticity equations for the shallow water model.  This is background lecture 2.1C in the Mathematics of Climate Modelling course.

    MAA North Central Section Summer Seminar Conceptual Climate Models, July 22-24, 2013, Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MNSeminar home page: http://homepages.gac.edu/~hvidsten/MAASeminar/index.html

  5. Climate Lecture by KK Tung

    17 Sep 2015 |

    A condensed introduction to conceptual climate modeling, written by KK Tung.

  6. Powerpoint Intro to Potential Analysis

    16 Sep 2015 | | Contributor(s):: Darren Anthony Marotta

    A technique to detect the number of states in a geophysical system attained from recorded time series.  Potential Analysis estimates the degree of a polynomial, which determines the number of states in the time series.  Changes in the number of states represent bifurcations of the system.

  10. Deriving the Shallow Water Model in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics

    01 Jan 2013 | | Contributor(s):: Christopher KRT Jones

    These collected lectures go over key concepts in the derivation shallow water model as a conceptual model for ocean dynamics.  The attached PDF notes in the supporting documents expand on these lectures. This short lecture series was part of the MCRN Mathematics of Climate Modelling...
