"Mathematics and Climate" to be named ASLI's Choice 2013

Atmospheric Science Librarians International (ASLI) honors Mathematics and Climate as ASLI’s CHOICE AWARD for the best book of 2013 in the fields of meteorology/climatology/atmospheric sciences. ASLI will award MCRN co-director Hans Kaper and MCRN member Hans Engler each with a plaque which will cite this book “for its accessible explanations in key areas where climate and mathematics meet.”  The award presentation will occur on February 5, 2014, at the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.

ASLI is an international professional association for atmospheric science librarians, institutions, and organizations involved in atmospheric research. Each year ASLI seeks nominations for the best book published that year. The books are then judged on nine criteria:

▪ uniqueness
▪ comprehensiveness
▪ usefulness
▪ quality
▪ authoritativeness
▪ organization
▪ illustrations/diagrams
▪ competition
▪ and references.

ASLI presents ASLI’s CHOICE AWARD for the best book of the year in the fields of meteorology / climatology / atmospheric sciences during the Annual American Meteorological Society meeting. This year's meeting is on February 2nd through the 6th, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. ASLI will feature the winning books at the ASLI booth (#732) in the Exhibit Hall for students, faculty and others to come and examine them.

As MCRN Director Chris Jones said, "To get recognition from a top organization in another area is about the pinnacle, in my opinion, for an applied mathematician!"

Congratulations, Hans and Hans!
