PETM VIDEO-ZEEBE

Climate Extremes of our Planet - Richard Zeebe, University of Hawaii, Honolulu.
PETM, 56 mya.

"In this presentation, I will explain basic controls on climate and ocean chemistry on different timescales and will examine past climate aberrations and ocean acidification events focusing on the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (~56 million years ago). The results allow evaluation of the current anthropogenic perturbation in the context of Earth’s history. It appears that during the Paleocene–Eocene Thermal Maximum processes and/or feedbacks other than direct CO2 forcing alone caused a substantial portion of the warming. These processes are hitherto unknown but need to be identified in order to evaluate their potential effect on future climate change."

Funding for conferences, workshops, summer schools, and more from PIMS

The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) welcomes applications for support of activities in the mathematical sciences to occur after April 1, 2016. Details of these activities and of the submission process are given in link. Generally, the deadline for submission is October 1, 2015, proposals will be reviewed by the PIMS Scientific Review Panel (SRP) in November, 2015, with awards announced shortly thereafter. Where appropriate, cost sharing is encouraged and can enhance the probability of success.

Though proposals must be received by October 1, 2015, earlier submissions are encouraged, and you may contact the PIMS Deputy Director (deputy.director@pims.math.ca), if you wish comments and feedback on draft proposals.

* Activities with relatively small budgets (under $2,000, exemplified by Pacific Northwest Seminars) can be proposed directly by email to the Deputy Director and are not subject to this deadline.
